Carpe Diem - "seize the day"
Last week, I went for my usual monthly treat – a facial. It’s an hour of intentional self-care. I love it, a trip to the countryside, picturesque and overlooking the Malvern Hills. But this time was different. I knew when I walked in that something was wrong, I could see and feel sadness. The wonderful woman who usually does it had passed away unexpectedly since my last visit.
It was a sharp reminder of life’s fragility. It also brought back memories of losing a beloved colleague, Shirley, the ripple effect was immense for all of us. My heart goes out to the team and her family. Grief is painful and long lasting
As I walked out a quote sprang to mind from the film Dead Poets Society. Robin Williams, playing the passionate teacher John Keating, implores his students to “Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.”
Those words have echoed all weekend – time is our most precious resource, yet it’s the one we can’t measure. We simply don’t know how much we have left.
The Urgency of Now
How often do we put off our dreams, our goals, our moments of joy, telling ourselves we’ll get to them later? But later isn’t guaranteed.
If you don’t want next year to be a repeat of this one, if you yearn for change, for growth, for a life that truly reflects your desires, then you must seize the day, today.
I was also reminded me of the brilliant Dr Andy Cope, (Art of Brilliance) , who said, “Always wear your best pants, because you never know what opportunities life might throw your way.” Life really is too short not to wear your best underwear!!
Autumn - a time for renewal
We are heading rapidly into Autumn. It’s a season of transformation. The leaves put on incredible show and splendour. , making way for new growth in the spring. Human nature isn’t separate to the rest of nature , we are part of it. So let’s be inspired by the season. create some new habits, lose the beliefs not serving you and get ready to shine again.
Don't wait
Don’t wait for another New Year’s resolution.
Start now. Take that first step towards your dreams. Enrol in that course, start that business, write that book, nurture those relationships.
Time isn’t waiting . Let’s just make every moment count.
